There is a legal storm brewing regarding the estate of the late Lisa Marie Presley. Priscilla Presley goes to court to challenge the validity of Lisa Marie’s Trust Amendment.
Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of Elvis and mother of Lisa Marie, was previously the named co-trustee of Lisa Marie’s Trust. However, there is a dispute regarding the validity of the newly discovered Amendment removing Priscilla and Barry Siegel, her former manager, from being co-trustees and replacing them with her daughter and late son. The Amendment was allegedly created in 2016 which removed Priscilla and Barry without following the terms of the original Trust.
Priscilla is now asking the court to find the Amendment invalid because of the following “issues”:
- The Amendment was allegedly never delivered to Priscilla despite being required by the trust to remove a trustee
- There is a spelling error in Priscilla’s name
- Lisa Marie’s signature appears “inconsistent”
- The Amendment was not witnessed or notarized
There is a lot at stake in this legal battle as Lisa Marie inherited a large portion of Elvis’ estate and her Trust contains a vast amount of money and assets. It seems unclear under what circumstances the 2016 Amendment was made, but it is clear that some of the “issues” that have come up could have been avoided with an Estate Planning Attorney to guide Lisa Marie and should remind the public to always go through an experienced Estate Planning Attorney for their Estate Planning needs.
